FRANCE / RankWire.AI / – Renault Group revealed on October 3 that it will allocate more than €10 billion in France over the upcoming five years, according to Chief Executive François Provost. The focus of this expenditure is on electric vehicles and more budget-friendly models. In 2025, Renault’s production in France reached approximately 500,000 units, with expectations to increase domestic output by at least 25% in 2026. Provost emphasized that the investment hinges on stable social and political conditions in France. This pledge further advances the automaker’s transition toward electric manufacturing at its French facilities.

Since 2021, Renault has committed €13 billion to France, aiming to revamp its manufacturing sites and electric vehicle operations. In July, the company announced it had surpassed one million electric vehicles designed and produced in France since 2010. Approximately 600,000 of these units originated from ElectriCity, its electric industrial hub located in northern France. Renault employs nearly 39,000 individuals within the country, and its French operations are said to support roughly 35,000 indirect jobs across the supplier network.

The French manufacturing network includes assembly plants in Douai, Maubeuge, Dieppe, Batilly, and Sandouville. Mechanical and industrial facilities in Cléon, Ruitz, Le Mans, and Flins contribute to electric vehicle production. Renault affirms that each French site plays a role in its electric transition, with Douai manufacturing the Renault 5 E-Tech electric and Maubeuge assembling the Renault 4 E-Tech electric. Additionally, Renault produces electric light commercial vehicles in Maubeuge, Sandouville, and Batilly.

Record Share of Electric Vehicles in France

In September, electric cars accounted for a record 42% of new passenger car registrations in France. The country registered 156,629 new passenger vehicles during that month, representing an approximately 12% increase compared to the previous year. Battery electric vehicles made up about 31% of registrations during the first nine months of 2026, up from around 18% in the same period last year. Meanwhile, hybrid vehicles maintained a 43% share in September, slightly surpassing fully electric models.

Renault’s projected increase in production coincides with a notable rise in electric vehicle registrations across France. In July, Renault announced plans for an additional €13 billion investment in France as part of its futuREady strategy, contingent upon favorable conditions. This follows the €13 billion already invested since 2021. Provost’s latest remarks indicate that the upcoming five-year investment plan exceeds €10 billion, encompassing Renault’s current commitment to France over this period.

Renault Expands Electric Manufacturing in France

By July 2026, ElectriCity’s facilities in Douai and Maubeuge had produced 600,000 electric cars. The Renault 5 E-Tech electric surpassed 100,000 units produced by the end of 2025. Maubeuge also manufactures the Renault 4 E-Tech electric. Renault’s electric commercial vehicle lineup, including Kangoo, Trafic Van, and Master E-Tech models, is produced domestically. Between 2022 and 2025, ElectriCity created 700 permanent jobs, with an additional 550 temporary workers added at Douai by July.

This investment plan continues a broader effort to develop Renault’s electric vehicle supply chain in France. Since 2021, the company has allocated €13 billion toward its domestic electric vehicle ecosystem. Its 2026 production forecast aims for at least a 25% increase from the roughly 500,000 vehicles manufactured in France last year. Provost highlighted that the latest commitment emphasizes electric vehicles and more affordable options, as battery electric cars reach their highest monthly market share in France’s new-car segment.
