BANGKOK, THAILAND / RankWire.AI / – Since September 16, flooding across Thailand has claimed 71 lives, according to the Interior Ministry. The disaster has affected 51 provinces during this period, leaving extensive areas submerged. As of October 12, flooding persisted in 20 provinces and Bangkok. The most recent national assessment reports 908,595 households and 2,458,895 individuals affected, highlighting the ongoing severity of the crisis. Officials monitor the situation through daily provincial reports and disaster response updates.

The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation announced that floodwaters covered 100 districts, 804 subdistricts, and 5,947 villages. Central Thailand remains among the worst-hit regions, with major rivers and tributaries overflowing into communities and farmland. By October 12, water levels were decreasing or stable in many locations, though authorities reported rising levels in parts of Phitsanulok and Phetchaburi, where ongoing monitoring and resident assistance continue. Several low-lying communities connected to central river systems still experience flooding.

Prolonged flooding is driven by persistent heavy rains and runoff from northern Thailand. Large volumes of water have flowed into central river basins, causing waterways to overflow. Earlier in October, floods impacted more than 1.14 million households and 3.18 million people nationwide. The lower totals on October 12 indicate receding water in several areas, but flooding still disrupts homes, roads, farmland, and daily activities across multiple provinces. Emergency teams continue to pump water and support communities where drainage remains slow.

Recovery efforts expand as floodwaters retreat

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul ordered immediate start to rehabilitation activities in regions where floodwaters have receded. Priorities include infrastructure repairs, community cleanup, and reopening transportation routes. Cabinet ministers and senior officials have been assigned to oversee operations in the most affected areas. Emergency teams continue drainage efforts, deploying machinery, personnel, and relief supplies to communities still experiencing high water levels. The focus remains on restoring essential access and services as residents return to their neighborhoods.

In Bangkok, flood management efforts are increasingly oriented toward recovery and restoring public utilities. Authorities continue cleanup operations while processing tens of thousands of flood assistance applications in the capital. Nine highway segments across five provinces remain impassable on October 12 due to floodwater. Officials persist with pumping water from low-lying areas and clearing debris as residents begin returning home and reopening businesses. Alternative routes remain accessible where flooding continues to block standard roads.

Relief payments accelerate in flood-affected communities

By October 12, government relief payments had reached 135,782 households, totaling over 1.069 billion baht. Authorities have instructed local agencies to expedite processing and disbursement of remaining applications to eligible residents. Disaster response teams are also distributing supplies and supporting local recovery efforts across affected provinces. This aid includes drainage equipment, cleanup support, and assistance for communities where water levels have fallen enough for residents to begin restoring homes and infrastructure. Damage assessments are ongoing as more flood-affected areas become accessible.

Attention is increasingly turning to southern Thailand as heavy rains persist in parts of the region. Forecasts for October 13 indicate heightened rainfall risks in Ranong and Yala. Officials have prepared personnel, equipment, food supplies, and transportation plans for provinces at potential flood risk. Emergency agencies remain on high alert while recovery activities continue elsewhere, with national authorities monitoring rainfall, river levels, and local flooding across the country. The government maintains coordination with provincial administrations as flood conditions evolve across different areas.
